3 weeks out

3 more weeks of practice until Sectionals. Last week was pretty weak. FYI I threw up doing intervals on Saturday after I played 2 games of Spring League savage. Is anyone else running on the weekends? We really need to start pushing, the finish line is close and our intensity has been for shit. Tonight for practice we're just going to play, whatever we have enough for. Let's try to get as many out as possible.

Post-Terminus

Nice work this weekend. We didn't make prequarters like we hoped, and we were only 2-4, but we played tough against some very good teams. We had a bad game versus Minnesota, a team that was probably better than us, but that we still could have beaten. We came out flat though, and got stomped. Sando nailed it when he said we didn't have any fire in that game. I know I was too tired to show much enthusiasm, so although I was fighting, it was hard to tell I was pumped except when I started yelling at you guys. We need to work harder as a team to get each other pumped up. Other things we need to work on...

  1. Endurance - All of the top teams are going to try and outrun us. We've gotta be ready for that. I've let us skip a few intervals now and then, but that can't happen anymore. 3 times a week we should be doing intervals. If you miss practice, you need to do them on your own. I'm going to try and run an extra set on the weekend too probably. Playing racquetball is not the same thing as doing intervals. Feel free to play whatever, just run intervals afterwards. It only takes 5 minutes.
  2. Man Defense - A lot of this was due to fatigue (see #1), but we've got to get better at man D. Not getting broken, not getting beaten to the open side, switching intelligently.
  3. Zone Defense - We're going to have to play it a lot to try and keep our legs fresh, we better get better at it. Eric and Pat need to mark better. I'd like Sunshine to learn to mark too. Everyone has to realize the key to the defense is preventing good hucks.
I thought, overall, our offense was pretty good. Our man O struggled a little when we got tired and people stopped cutting. We still need to improve our continuation timing, but we were breaking the mark well and getting open. I think we solved our dump problem, although some of us (me) need to look dump more often. Zone O was fairly solid as well. The poppers did a great job of catching my really difficult passes. Emory manned up me and Fox late in that game. That gave us some problems, but I think we figured that out. Another option would be for me to just play that like a dump. The toughest thing for us is going to be keeping our chemistry for the next 5 weeks until Sectionals. We have no tournaments between now and then. We need to scrimmage as much as possible. I say we scrimmage Kennesaw at their place when we can on Tuesdays (since we've lost our fields on Tuesday). We can also try to get a weekend scrimmage now and then. If we aren't able to schedule a scrimmage on Tuesdays, we'll make it a track workout, it'll last about an hour and then people can throw afterwards. We can do that at CCCC or the Terrill Mill park. I guess for this week we'll assume track workout.
